Fiat Multiplay makes its debut in Paris: 3-in-1 vehicle

FIAT unveiled Multiplay this evening at the Stellantis “Night Before” on the eve of the opening of the 2026 Paris Motor Show. At 4.45 meters long, the concept combines the space efficiency of an MPV, the character of an SUV and the versatility of a pick-up. At the heart of the project is the C-Pillar ‘Metamorfosi’ architecture: a mobile rear module that enables the vehicle to switch from a 6+1 family configuration to a four-seat pick-up with an open bed. Multiplay is conceived as a laboratory of solutions for tomorrow’s mobility and is not a preview of a specific production model.

The concept is presented to representatives of the international media by Olivier Francois, Company Strategic Advisor for Stellantis, and Arnaud Belloni, CEO of the FIAT, Abarth and Lancia brands and Chief Marketing Officer for Europe. It addresses a practical question: how can a single vehicle meet the needs of families juggling work, school, sport and outdoor activities, whose requirements for space and cargo capacity can change even within the same day?

Presented at the 2026 Paris Motor Show “Night Before” Stellantis event, Multiplay explores a new approach to family mobility.

C-Pillar ‘Metamorfosi’ and the transformation of the vehicle
Multiplay’s answer starts with its architecture. Through a rear module that slides longitudinally, C-Pillar called ‘Metamorfosi’ can transform an enclosed family vehicle into a pick-up in just a few movements. The system developed around the C-pillar is a distinctive element of the concept and makes its adaptability possible.

In the family configuration, the cabin offers six seats plus an additional flexible element, the ‘Petsenger seat’. In the pick-up configuration, four seats are combined with an open bed for bicycles, sports and outdoor equipment, and bulky items. Cargo capacity thus becomes a function that can be activated when needed, within the same vehicle.

The rear spoiler follows the same principle: it rotates to become an integrated bike rack that, in the pick-up configuration, can carry up to two bicycles. A single component combines aerodynamic and practical functions, without the need for a dedicated external accessory.

A new interpretation of the Multipla spirit
Multiplay builds on the legacy of two projects that redefined the relationship between exterior dimensions and interior space. In 1956, the FIAT 600 Multipla could seat six people in around 3.5 meters. In 1998, the Multipla offered six seats across two rows in a vehicle less than four meters long. The new concept continues that exploration of space through an architecture that can adapt to different uses.

This legacy takes shape in a project designed around people and their everyday lives. Passenger space, comfort and cargo capacity are considered together, exploring a vehicle that can fulfill multiple roles and support a family’s different activities.

A cabin that adapts to family needs
The 6+1 configuration evolves the Multipla’s six-seat philosophy with the ‘Petsenger seat’, a modular unit that explores different uses: a mounting point for a child car seat, a dedicated space for a pet, a small table or a storage compartment. The cabin becomes a space that can be arranged to suit the journey and its occupants.

Solutions for pets are integrated into the vehicle’s components. An outer section of the ‘Petsenger seat’ cushion can be detached and used as a leash, while a compartment in the door houses a folding bowl. Storage pockets, elastic bands and multifunctional elements complete the organization of the space.

Multiplay challenges one of the biggest compromises of modern family vehicles: the unusable third row. Thanks to its highly efficient architecture, the rear compartment can accommodate up to two children and even an adult when needed. The result is a dedicated family zone where children have their own space while remaining within easy reach and view of parents.

The front passenger seat can transform into the ‘Sunseat’, a lounge-style configuration for use when the vehicle is parked. Facing the rear, it uses the dashboard as a backrest to create a chaise longue beneath the panoramic roof, providing a place to read, relax or enjoy the surroundings.

Large glass surfaces, generous side windows and the panoramic roof enhance natural light and the sense of space. The connection between the cabin and the outside world reinforces the concept’s focus on recreational and outdoor activities.

Colors and materials inspired by the Italian summer
The color design draws inspiration from the watermelon, evoking the Italian summer and its spirit of togetherness. The bright green bodywork recalls the fruit’s rind, while the red and pink tones of the cabin echo the fruit inside. A soft pink floor and a pixelated color gradient extending from the ‘Petsenger seat’ to the Kids Area, with shades of turquoise, complete this interpretation.

Materials research prioritizes simplicity and functionality. Most of the soft components use monomaterial textile, made with a no-stitch 3D knit process that reduces waste and creates soft, adaptable surfaces. In the kids and pets areas, waterproof finishes, also monomaterial, meet the demands of everyday use.

The horizontal dashboard strip is inspired by the Mediterranean horizon, where the sky and sea seem to merge. The visual dialogue between exterior and interior colors reinterprets FIAT’s historic body-colour inside-out philosophy and integrates the display into the cabin architecture.

Technology integrated into the space
The hidden display explores a more discreet interaction with digital technology. Integrated into the dashboard, it disappears from view when the vehicle is switched off, leaving a visually uncluttered environment. Digital functions are thus incorporated into the interior design to support the onboard experience and leave space for people and their activities.

Versatility also guides research into the use of resources: Multiplay explores how a single vehicle can fulfill roles usually performed by different vehicles or additional accessories. Its transformation architecture, use of space and multifunctional components provide a testing ground for future FIAT innovations.

A symbolic handover at Media Night
The presentation of Multiplay marks a meaningful moment for FIAT. After sharing the story behind the concept, Olivier Francois symbolically hands over the keys to Arnaud Belloni, marking a new chapter for the Brand. A gesture that connects FIAT’s heritage of ingenuity with its vision for the future: rethinking the form and function of the automobile around people’s evolving needs.

“Multiplay expresses a quality we want to bring to FIAT’s next chapter: the ability to make the car useful in everyday life. Families’ needs are changing, and this concept allows us to explore solutions that change with them. It is a laboratory of ideas for the future of the Brand, centered on space, versatility and the Italian character that makes FIAT instantly recognizable”, says Arnaud Belloni
