Panda was officially ''born'' in 1980 and since the beginning Panda has conquered everyone's hearts for its versatility and convenience: at just 3.38 meters, the Panda offered space for five people and had a remarkable ability on how to best utilise the interior space. In 1983 its 4x4 off-roader version was released, featuring a four-wheel drive running gear it was designed to be tough, resistent, and easy to fix.

Over time, the Panda received a number of significant improvements, for example appearing in an all-wheel drive version - a model that becomes immediately recognizable by its inscription "Panda 4x4" printed on the door. In December 1989 the Panda 4x4 "Sisley" was subjected to a tough test on the tracks of the Colle del Gran San Bernardo during the "Motoring" race proving the strength of the 4x4. Trekking and Country Club were one of the different versions of this off-road Panda, opening a new decade for the model.

In the 2000s, the Panda underwent a makeover and gained new shapes, keeping its original tall silhouette but rounding out all its curves and adding a dose of modern and sporty style - these changes were intended to lead the Panda to explore points and levels not reached before, so much so that, in the end, they earned it the title of European Car of the Year in 2004.
